Dear friends and supporters of Malaika,
Our children's summer vacations have been different from previous years because we had the census in Tanzania, and longer than usual.
Francesco and Giulia from Italy, and before that Sue and Col from Australia were able to spend more time with the children they had not been able to spend during the Covid-19 months.
The little ones enjoyed to stay home and do activities during the school months cannot be organized, and they were also a great help in preparing the corn harvest for the winter, to which they all contributed.
Those who have come of age have had their first work experiences outside Malaika, as a foretaste of what will be their lives as independent people once they finish school: many of them are very close to this goal!
Even those who want to continue studying had to scramble to find employment during the months of July and August, and interesting initiatives came out of it: some of them tutored another Family House, others engaged with an NGO that works in schools to improve hygiene skills, and others took temporary jobs with businesses of our acquaintances, as well as large and small maintenance jobs at the house and in the garden.
Now begins the great rush of the last few months of school, and they will be especially intense and exciting. The three young girls you see in the photo have been awarded scholarships from a German foundation to attend a very prestigious school in Arusha, and we couldn't be happier. Well done girls!
I will leave you to read our news, saying goodbye and thanking you for your attention and support for Malaika.
