Dear friends and supporters,
these are weeks of construction and big changes at Malaika.
I am pleased to tell you that after several months of planning and research, the construction of a new candle workshop, separate from the main Malaika facility, has begun.
The idea to start with a workshop was born in late 2017, a small handmade candle production to diversify Malaika's income and start a form of local funding based on productivity and not on donations from abroad. The aim is to generate a small additional income that can help finance the needs of our family home and simultaneously contribute to the local economy.
After only one year, requests for candles from restaurants and resorts in the area have doubled, and sales continue to grow. For this reason, the board of directors decided to create an extension project and to seek donations to support some building costs: discussions with possible donors are currently underway.
In order to be able to build faster, we have chosen to make up the structure with two shipping containers, generously donated by Messina Lines and join them by a common roof. In the coming weeks, the windows will be created, and solar panels for light and then new tanks for additional water storage will be set up and installed.
We hope to give you soon more updates of the new small structure, which we hope will give great impetus to the initiative to support Malaika!
I now leave you to read our news, saying goodbye and thanking you for your attention and support for Malaika.
